Scientific Council

We are pleased to introduce the Scientific Councile of YoungChem 2026, which will oversee the scientific quality of the entire event.

D.Sc. Eng. Krzysztof Durka Associate Professor

Krzysztof Durka received his PhD in 2015 and completed his habilitation in 2023. Since 2015, he has been affiliated with the Warsaw University of Technology, initially as an assistant professor and from 2025, as an associate professor. In 2018, he undertook a scientific internship at Durham University. Krzysztof Durka has published 92 scientific articles. He was a leader of NCN OPUS, SONATA and PRELUDIUM projects. His research is focused on the photoactive organic compounds such as thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF-OLED), room temperature phosphorescence (RTP), aggregation-induced emission (AIE) materials, as well as heavy-atom free BODIPY photosensitizers dedicated for the application in anticancer and antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT). He specializes in physical organic chemistry, crystallography, UV-Vis spectroscopy, quantum-chemical computations and organometallic chemistry.

D.Sc. Eng. Maciej Dranka Associate Professor

In 2007, Maciej Dranka, PhD, DSc, Eng., obtained his doctoral degree and began working as an assistant professor at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Warsaw University of Technology, in a research group led by Professor Janusz Zachara, focusing on X-ray diffraction studies. Since 2013, he has been involved in structural research on chemical power sources. His method for investigating the local structure of electrolytes, which correlates identified structural motifs with spectroscopic and thermal results, aligns with the current trend of intensive research on electrolytes with more favorable operational parameters. The use of crystallographic studies to describe the phase structure of liquid and solid electrolytes containing heterocyclic anions with a dicyanoimidazole fragment was the basis for his habilitation, obtained in 2018. Dr. Dranka has authored 60 scientific articles published in prestigious JCR-listed journals with high impact factors, has been cited over 1,300 times with an H-index of 23, and has authored several chapters in scientific monographs and holds patents. He is a laureate of many 1st- and 2nd-degree awards for scientific and teaching achievements from the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology, and a recipient of the START scholarship for the most talented young scientists, awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science. Since 2020, he has been the Chairman of the Committee for Doctoral Proceedings of the Scientific Council of the Chemical Sciences Discipline at the Warsaw University of Technology, and in the current 2025–2028 term, he also serves as the Vice-Chairman of this Scientific Council.

Professor D.Sc. Eng. Agnieszka Adamczyk – Woźniak

She has devoted her studies and academic career to the Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology. She earned her Master of Science (MSc) in 2002, her PhD in 2007, and her postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in 2014. She was awarded the title of professor in 2023. Prof. Agnieszka Adamczyk-Woźniak has received numerous awards from the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology as well as scholarships from the Center for Advanced Studies, Warsaw University of Technology, and from the Minister of Science and Higher Education. She has led several research projects. Her research interests include organoboron compounds – their synthesis, investigation of their properties, and possible applications, particularly in medicinal chemistry. She has co-organized numerous scientific conferences. She is currently the Head of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology and the President of the Warsaw Division of the Polish Chemical Society.

Ph.D. Ewa Mironiuk-Puchalska

Ewa Mironiuk-Puchalska earned her PhD in Chemistry in 2003. Following her doctoral studies, she undertook a research internship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States. She subsequently joined the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology, where she currently holds the position of assistant professor, combining research with teaching. During her academic career, she also completed a research internship in China at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC). Dr. Mironiuk-Puchalska has been involved in various research groups focusing on the chemistry of nucleosides, sugars, and organometallic compounds, and is a co-author of numerous publications in these areas. Her current research centers on the modification of 5-fluorouracil, a well-known anticancer drug.
